Project Description

Family Dwelling

The construction of a dwelling on a large piece of land within Kings Cliffe, close to Fineshade Woods. The design responded to the clients brief for a dwelling with a large open plan space that had two ‘wings’ to it. The layout was informed by the spaces the client desired and the views surrounding the site whilst maintaining privacy, as there was a byway open to all traffic that crossed the site. The design also had to respond to its setting, offering subservience to the natural setting.

The house is constructed using a traditional cavity wall construction with stone as its outer leaf. Within the dwelling are king post trusses and log burners and a vast amount of glazing to the living, dining and kitchen area, featuring a vaulted ceiling. The two wings of the layout defined the areas, creating an entrance wing with garage, study and lobby, connected via a spine housing the living, dining and kitchen area, connecting to the second wing, which is where the bedrooms and bathrooms were located. The client also opted for an air source heat pump with solar panels.

The landscaping and driveway have been also carefully designed, with assistance from the client, to enhance the area and provide an entrance to the dwelling through a stone wall with gate and low-level fencing.

We produced the planning drawings for approval and also assisted with the project during its construction phase using a JCT Contract. The chosen contractor was Silver Heron developments and the project was completed in May 2021.
